Reflecting my Blog

4.Early in the year, I learned the importance of: doing a well thought out story board and script it really helps me get my thoughts organized and it makes it easier when to know what we want when filming.I learned it is also important to do overlays and titles, making the titles roll on the end credits is a lot easier than putting titles side by side on the timeline. i also learned it is important to use copyright friendly images. i neer thought about copyright until this class and in my first project we had to find new picutres to use because the original ones were copyrighted. You can see that in my first film, I did not make the credits roll, and I realize it is a lot easier and faster to make them roll also we spent a lot of time finding pictures, but did not check the copyright on all of them. On my second project, I learned a green screen worked and how to make the backgrounds different. A scene that shows this well is called "Traditions" when Michael and I switch our backgrounds back and forth while talking. I also learned how to use effects through a workshop with messing around with the interviews. Later in the year, I learned how to use effects to make the pictures different, before we had used the effects only on film, not on pictures. I had really learned this concept because after the "Jabberwocky" video, i used a lot of effects on "The Water is Wide" video. One good example is from "The Water is Wide" when the butterfly pictures "flys" around the screen, I am really glad I learned these effects because it made this class more fun.
5. This class made me understand commercials. Before, I never realized that in all commercials the rule of thirds was used. Now that we did an exercise I always notice the rule of thirds in movies, commericals, and tv shows. I cannot demonstrate this rule because the video of me and sam with the over the shoulder workshop does not use the rule of thirds. I also learned that music can make a huge difference in the mood and tone of a video. I did not use a lot of music in my videos, but by watching other groups videos, the music they chose helped create the mood and tone.
6. This class made me actually enjoy group work. Before I hated working with groups, but now that I got to meet all these people in my class I prefer to work with people instead of working alone.

The Water is Wide reflection

1. The story we were trying evoke was what Mr.Z told us when we first started playing this song. We were able to achieve this by using water images and making them move. We added some of own ideas to the story by adding animals like ducks, swans, and butterflies. With these pictures we were able to make our theme more nature like.
2. 1:40-2:09 is what we are most crowded. It is the beginning of our pictures and it starts really calm. We were trying to show a calm nature scene. Our images were very short but moved slowly which helped evoke the calm mood. We left all the colors the same, but we just added effects to them.
3. 75% of our film is abstract. Yes we did have a consistent idea about water, so throughout the video we made the water move.
4. I learned that abstract images are just an opinion, but they are fun to make.
5. I realized it is fun to interpret music the way you want. It's nice to be able to choose pictures of what you want and put effects on the pictures to make them different.
6. My patners helped a lot with the transtions and chosing some effects 7. I chose a lot of the pictures we used, I helped with the story board, and I helped find the cites for the pictures because we lost our bibliography, so we had to refind all of our picutres .

Jabberwocky Stanza 4

The special effect we used most effectively was for the forest picture. We were able to make it look like a evil place instead of a regular forest. The mood we were trying to communicate was the Jabberwocky is evil and we wanted a creepy tone. We were trying to show the jabberwocky is something out of this world, and has never been seen before, so we made all the pictures distorted to different colors.

Effects 3

Directions: 1. find a clip 2. drag just the video into the timeline 3. go to the effects on the bottom left 4. go to the stylize folder 5. go to fine edges 6. drag the fine edges on the clip 7. go up to effect controls 8. then to fine edges 9. press the arrow next to blend with 10. put the dots where you want them to be I think this effect will be used when a meteor is going to hit. Meteors flash light when they pass and this reminds me of that look.

Video Effects 2

Directions:
1. find a clip
2. make it about 10 seconds long
3. put video on the timeline not the audio
4. on the left bottom side go to video effects
5. go to the distort tab
6. go to wave warp
7. wave type: sine
8. wave height: 13
9. wave width: 36
10. direction: 90 degress
11. wave speed: 5.7
12. pinning: left edge
13. phase: 7 degrees
14. antialiasing: low

I think this effect will be used during a really lame movie, that has really bad effects. And they would use this as if we were under water.

Thinking About our Final Values Video

Positive Comments:
1. This post is from Cassandra’s group. The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from Cassandra and she told us that we do not need to add anymore shots to our film. That was helpful because we were unsure if we needed to re-film and add some clips. In addition, Cassandra told us that they liked the shot of the two baseball players walking towards the baseball field, and that helped us see that we did a good job filming that section of the video
2. This post is from Lizzy and Luis. The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from Lizzy and Luis. They told us that they liked the shot of Demi and Jorge talking about leaving or telling the person that they broke their windshield, and that was helpful because we know that shot was effective. In addition, they told us that we need to add music, and that helped us see that music will make this shot even more effective.
3. This post is from Bree and Liz. The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from them and told us that they liked the pitching scene because it was realistic, and that was helpful because we now know that we did a good job filming that scene. In addition, they told us that they liked our title, and that helped us see that we used a good style and font to catch the viewers attention.
4. This post is from Cristabel and Jessica. The positive comments that were most meaningful to us were from them and they told us that they especially like the shot where the boy runs away but the girl stays because it helps emphasize the idea of good vs. bad choices, and that was helpful because it shows we did a good job emphasizing doing the right thing is better than doing the wrong thing. In addition, they told us that we did a good job editing, and that helped us see that all our hard work paid off.

Suggestions:
1. The two best suggestions we got were from Luis and Lizzy, they said that we should use music when Demi and Jorge run off to add tension to the overall effect of the film. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to add music at this point .they also suggested that we should fix our editing. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to re-edit some shots.
2. The two best suggestions we got were from Bree and Liz, and they suggested that we should use a dissolve, or a fade to black instead because it was very confusing that the locations changed so suddenly without a proper transition, We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to change the transitions between the two conversations.
3. The two best suggestions we got were from Julissa and Ryan, and they suggested that we could also add a resolution to show that the boy learned a lesson somehow. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to add to the ending.
4. The two best suggestions we got were from Cristabel and Jessica and they
suggested that we should add the sound of shattering glass. We agree with this suggestion, and our plan to address it is to put a shattering glass sound effect.

Values Reflection

1) The value we are trying to represent is honesty and doing the right thing.
2) I think our group has reacted well to having to make changes. We have had to change many things to get our video to work. I think we also have done a very good job working together.
3) We still need to complete the credits and the music in our video.
4) We want feedback on how our video is flowing and what type of music we should put into our video to help keep the mood.
5) One challenge we have faced is we had to re-write our script three times. It was very frustraing because we had to make our characters teenagers and to before they were young kids. We also had to make it possible to film everything at school because we were not able to meet outside of school due to conflicting schedules. We had to leave out certain parts of our video since our characters have changed.

Rule of Thirds Reflection

Casey and Jayy
1) rule of thirds: The person on the left should be bigger on the screen and should be placed more to the left. This way, we will be able to see Jayy more and see her reactions better.
2). relative sizes of the actors on screen: The person on the left appears smaller. The person on the right appears bigger. This gives me the impression that Casey id more dominant than Jayy.
3. What I realize from looking at this shot is that it is important to make sure you can see each of the characters reactions and not focus just on the back of the person's head.

Damen and Michael
1) rule of thirds: The person on the left is the perfect size on the screen and should be placed more to the right. This way, we will be able to see a little bit more of Damen. Michael should move to the right so we have more focus on him.
2). relative sizes of the actors on screen: The person on the left appears bigger than the of the right. The person on the right appears smaller. This gives me the impression that Damen is more dominant than Michael in the conversation.
3. What I realize from looking at this shot is that it is important to make sure each person is placed so you can see them clearly.

Ryan and Lisa
1) rule of thirds: The person on the left is a good size on the screen and should be placed more to the right. This way, we will be able to know Ryan is not awkward in the conversation.
2). relative sizes of the actors on screen: The person on the left appears bigger. The person on the right appears smaller. This gives me the impression that Ryan is more dominant than Lisa in this shot.
3. What I realize from looking at this shot is that it is important to make sure the focus is on the person who is talking, not on the back of the other person's head.

#4
1) rule of thirds: The person on the left should be bigger on the screen and is placed more perfectly in the shot. This way, we will be able to know the person is talking to him.
2). relative sizes of the actors on screen: The person on the left appears bigger. The person on the right appears smaller. This gives me the impression that the person on the left is more dominant.
3. What I realize from looking at this shot is that it is important to make sure the people are placed correctly.

#5
1) rule of thirds: The person on the left should be bigger on the screen but is placed perfectly in the shot. This way, we will be able to see the person on the left closer.
2). relative sizes of the actors on screen: The person on the left appears smaller. The person on the right appears bigger. This gives me the impression that the person on the right is more dominant than the person on the left.
3. What I realize from looking at this shot is that it is important to make sure each person is a good size in the shot.

#6
1) rule of thirds: The person on the left should be (smaller on the screen and should be placed more to the left. This way, we will be able to fit the rule of thirds more and not see the person on the left too close up.
2). relative sizes of the actors on screen: The person on the left appears smaller. The person on the right appears bigger. This gives me the impression that the person on the right is more dominant than the person on the left. And the person on the left is less dominant in the shot.
3. What I realize from looking at this shot is that it is important to make sure each person is placed rght. These people were too close, and it resulted in a close up of each person and the rule of thirds was not really followed. ________________________________________________________________________________.

Over the Shoulder Reflection

1. Before we shot our video we made sure we were standing in a good spot so we could film the over the shoulder shot effectively. I realized we need to make sure we are standing properly and film fast.
2. No we did not follow the rule of thrids. We did not think about the rule of thirds when we were filming.
3. When doing the over the shoulder shot, i feel like these characters know each other and get along well. This works because they are facing each other and we are able to see each other facial expressions.
4. Our dialogue seemed pretty realistic because when sam and I talk in person we are usually awkward so this is pretty normal for us. We did not have any challenges editing our video.
5. I think our dominant mood would be awkward, but we did this on purpose to make it less boring. We had some awkward jestures and the way we talked was just awkward.
6. I realized that using the over the shoulder shot is very useful when showing a conversation between two people. I also found that using the rule of thirds is hard when doing thiws shot.
7. I think from this video, the viewers can learn more about Sam and I.
